Wangthai is an upmarket Thai Restaurant located in the old city market building in Customs Street, behind the Viaduct Basin.

The character of the existing building has been partly retained with exposed ceilings in some areas. Part of the main floor was raised making the restaurant split level with curved feature walls separating the eating areas. There is a very strong Thai influence throughout, with teak timber joinery and sandstone feature walls and columns. This is topped off with an exquisite water feature and Thai ornamentals fitted throughout.

The Architect was based in Cape Town and was not present throughout the project. Canam handled the co-ordination of the subcontractors, which included kitchen installers flown in from South Africa and a team of Thai Joiners flown in from Bangkok as well as the project management and any day to day design issues which arose. The contract was completed on time and within budget.
