This project consisted of 2 Separable Portions, the first being the construction of a new 1000 M2 Emergency Department and Ambulance Bay, followed by the refurbishment of the existing Emergency Department.

All work needed to comply with Level of Importance IL4 as the facility needed to be operational immediately after an earthquake or other disastrous event. Canam therefore worked closely with the Consultants, Subcontractors and Suppliers to ensure that all work complied with this requirement, particularly when having to upgrade the existing services.

Canam also needed to work closely with the Hospital and their staff as all work was completed within a live environment. The existing A&E Department remained operational whist the new facility was built, the facility was then transferred to the new building which remained operational whilst the existing was refurbished. The Radiology, Diagnostic Unit, and Coronary Care units in the adjacent building also needed to be kept operational at all times.

Canam implemented robust Traffic Management Plans to ensure that access to the Hospital was not compromised and that Construction traffic did not pose a safety risk to the public.

The project was successfully completed within programme and Canam are pleased to have been involved in providing such a fantastic facility for the West Auckland Community.
