Tegel Foods Refrigerated Distribution Centre is a Design and Build, Negotiated Contract. The project involved taking a green field site adjacent to the existing Tegel Chicken processing plant and developing a suitable distribution centre for processed chickens.
The main structure consists of structural steel portal frames, a specifically designed concrete floor founded on timber piles and both roof and walls cladded with insulated panels. The facility includes state of the art building services, loading docks with seals, conveyor structures and an office block. Building maintenance and other access platforms were fitted throughout the facility.
Canam Construction developed the logistical design of the refrigerated distribution centre which incorporated conveyor chains from the processing plant to the distribution centre, A Cool Store (1oC), A Freezer (-18oC), A dispatching area complete with sealed truck docks and hoists (1 – 4oC) and an environmental loading area.
The distribution centre was constructed on time with all parties pleased with the end result.
