Client, Orion Health, a NZ owned specialist IT Healthcare provider required new headquarters and overflow space to cater for their rapid expansion on the global market. Orion selected Canam to carry out the works based on our track record, ‘can do’ attitude and availability of resources.

Canam effectively managed the works; from day one enabling staff to function within the space by carefully staging the works, as well as separating access and egress for Orion Health staff, their clients and contractors.

The Grafton Road site was ideally located for access to Auckland hospital, motorways and the city. The client’s long term commitment to the well-being of their staff meant that they opted to carry out a seismic upgrade of the structure over and above the NZ Building Code standards. The engineering solution called for 19 meter deep driven piles, external steel pipe ‘K’ braces on 3 sides of the building over two levels plus internal lateral steel reinforcing retrofitted under the concrete slab.

A new central atrium over four levels, extensive repairs and replacement to the external façade plus the creation of a new retail café and balcony on the ground floor were all carried out concurrently with the seismic upgrade. To facilitate the fast track nature of the project Canam’s project management team were active in promoting innovative and cost effective solutions whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
