Basque Mews Recladding
NZS 3910: 2003
The Basque project is a seven storey apartment building consisting of 24 residential units with two levels of car parking below.
This building, a steel reinforced concrete structure, presented major issues such as appraising the existing fire rating, assessing load carrying capacities, structural connections, and corrosion of the existing steel structure.
Together with the structural engineer and the designer, Canam developed a methodology to upgrade the load carrying capacities of the existing reinforced concrete balcony structure spanning the entire 9 storeys. Remedial works were also undertaken, and included a new rainscreen clad façade fixed to an aluminium railing system.
Canam worked closely with the design team on this project, initiating and fostering strong communication lines between all parties, with a succinct focus on the feasibility of this project long before construction began.
Canam was actively involved in developing the most cost effective and time saving solutions, in conjunction with the management of city council, and adherence to building code requirements.
