Barnardos Children’s Trust
The job consisted of the internal refurbishment of an existing play centre, a new addition, covered play area and extensive site works.
The original plan was to carry out the project in two stages, with all the children being present in the building for the duration of the works. This created numerous challenges for the site team who were required to ensure that the construction area was “child proof”, which was not an easy task.
As it turned out, all the children were relocated to another building a week into the project, as the demolition work uncovered the presence of asbestos. The asbestos was removed, the project continued and was completed within the original programme, despite $60,000 worth of variations being added to the contract.
Barnardos are very proud of their colourful new facility, which by their own admission was long overdue for refurbishment.
